The chemical formula LiF is an inorganic compound that consists of fluorine and lithium. It is a solid and is considered one of the most important salts. Ceramics, molten metals, and the nuclear industry are some of the applications of LiF.

LiF contains the cations and anions. The rock salt structure is where the ion are arranged in a regular 3-dimensional crystal lattice. This structure is common among many alkali metals.
Each ion is surrounded by 6 fluoride ion in the LiF structure. The face-centered FCC arrangement is formed by the alternating positions of the lithium ion. The FCC lattice is an interpenetrating one because of the alternate positions of the fluoride ion. This arrangement ensures that each ion is surrounded by 6 fluoride ion. LiF has a high melting point and strong ionic interactions.
The LiF crystal lattice can be seen as a pattern of cells. Each cell has one ion at the center surrounded by 6 ion at the corners. This arrangement is repeated in all three dimensions. The small distance between the two ion's is a sign of a strong ionic bond.
The LiF crystal lattice has high symmetry. It is part of the Fm 3m space group, which indicates a face-centered lattice with mirror symmetry. The physical properties of LiF are reflected in this high symmetry.
